Aztek Networks To Partner With Calix In Offering Unique Solution For Switch Collapse

Calix to Become a Reseller of Aztek Networks' Emergency Stand Alone (ESA) Switch

Boulder, Colo. (Feb. 2, 2007) - Aztek Networks, a leading independent provider of Emergency Stand Alone (ESA) switching and IP gateway products, has announced a strategic partnership and reseller agreement with Calix, the largest telecom equipment supplier focused solely on access solutions for broadband service delivery.

Calix has agreed to market and resell the Aztek Networks 5000S Emergency Stand Alone switching solution, featuring Aztek's patent-pending True ESA technology, the industry's only open-standards, environmentally hardened and fully redundant ESA switch. When combined, the Aztek Networks 5000S and the Calix broadband access system form a unique solution for switch collapse and the upgrade of legacy telecommunications end-office switches and proprietary remote switching units. A Calix access system equipped with Aztek's 5000S ESA Switch enables local telephone communication and access to local 911 services when network connections have been severed.

"We are delighted to announce this strategic partnership and reseller agreement with Calix," said Steven Bruny, CEO at Aztek Networks. "Combined with Calix's industry-leading broadband access platforms, Aztek's innovative ESA system forms a flexible and extremely cost-effective solution for switch collapse and broadband network upgrade."

"The Aztek Networks ESA solution is a key enabling technology for us," stated John Colvin, Vice President, Field Operations at Calix. "We have collaborated closely with Aztek throughout product design and development, and we are pleased to commence this reseller arrangement. Our access systems, enhanced with Aztek's ESA platform, create an ideal solution for broadband services and voice reliability."

The Aztek Networks 5000S is the only ESA solution that communicates on the open-standard GR-303 protocol towards both the host switch and the access systems. The 5000S continuously monitors the signaling link between the access systems and the host switch, playing an active role only when the signaling link fails. If a failure occurs, the 5000S becomes the active voice switch and processes all local calls and routes all emergency 911 calls to pre-designated local emergency responders until the signaling link is restored and voice switching capability can be returned to the host switch. This ensures that all subscribers served via the Calix broadband access system will have continuous dial tone and uninterrupted access to emergency 911 services. Because the 5000S is compact - one rack unit high - and environmentally hardened, it can be co-located with the Calix access systems in either a conditioned central office or within a field cabinet.

The Aztek Networks 5000S can adapt as the carrier's network evolves. With a software upgrade, the 5000S can serve as an ESA switch and also perform an IP media gateway function between a TDM access system and an IP softswitch.

Aztek Networks will release the 5000S ESA switch for general availability in May 2007.
